JULY 2005
15 Bob meets the Quarries Architectural Resource Team.
27 We close on Lot 16 of The Quarries Eco-village.
AUGUST
29 Visited Bensonwood: conference with Tom Goldschmid and Chris Adams, designer.
SEPTEMBER
?5 Bob & Liz sign design contract with Bensonwood.
29 Packet arrived from Andrew Dey, our new project steward.
OCTOBER
13? First drawings (SD1) arrive from Bensonwood.
19 Bob meets with ART: house site and driveway approved. Also visited Alberene Soapstone Quarry, received samples and prices.
NOVEMBER
1 Steve Thomas calls and sets 11/14 as date for soil testing.
5 Bob & Liz do green building seminar and home tour in C'ville: meet Alec Cargile of Lithic Construction.
16 Steve Thomas reports that land perk tested and passed.
19 Bob and Liz met with Alec Cargile of Lithic Construction: discussed GC possibility; we make a visit to this land and mark boundary trees to be saved if possible as well as checking out areas marked for drainfield and well.
DECEMBER
22 Bob arranged meeting with Massie Saunders for survey (Jan 2).
27? Bob & Liz tell Alec Cargile we'd like to work with Lithic as our builder.
JANUARY 2006
2 We meet with Massie Saunders and review survey site also meet with Jarrod Hood, our probable site supervisor.
12 Bob meets with Alec on the lot: budget looks tight, might need to stage construction/revise plans.
24 Massie Saunders informs us that they are on the ground today surveying.
29 Bob finishes core schematic details in 1/2" scale house model.
FEBRUARY
1 Meeting with Chris: discussed site design and house details; meeting continued on Friday AM.
2-4 Bensonwood Builders Seminar: Jarred Hood attended; lots of presentations on Bensonwood company, systems, and history; tours of new and old facilities; chili cook-off. After seminar, Jarred, Andrew and Bob met to discuss scope of work between Benson and Lithic.
14 Bob meets with Alec and R.E.B. (HVAC contractor).
14 Bob meets with Alex at Prolink.
23 bid from Prolink printed out; further research indicated.
MARCH
10 Bensonwood Shell package document arrives by email.
15 Millwork PDFs arrive from Andrew.
23 Bob marks intended driveway center and trees to go; cuts two trees ahnging over road.
APRIL
11 Alec reports work has started on the preliminary clearing and a well permit is being applied for; also subcontractor bids are late, so his proposal is too. Now likely Thursday 13 April.
15 Alec calls for some clarifications on specs for bid.
15 Septic report arrives in mail; no postmark but internally it is dated March 4; incompetence or back-dating?
18 Bob visits Lithic: drops off septic report/design, signs erosion control promissory paperwork, and picks up Alec's pricing proposal.
18 Bob visits land to check clearing: there's a culvert! and a clearing! Observed still standing tree; mulch pile; stump pile; looks like a couple more pines need "personal attention."
MAY
2 Bob and Liz meet with Alec to discuss his bid and possibility of doing the timberframe; visit Robertson house to look at progress and chat with Jarrod.
13 Bob and Liz meet with Alec at his timberframe, discuss timberframing; frame looks good; we leave packet of house details.
13 Bob and Liz visit land; Scott's chainsaw fails to impress a pine tree; we go homes. Unwanted pines remain standing.
27 Bob and Liz circumnavigate property, see salamander, frog, turkey, hawk, fish, turtle; the Snead chipper is gone; no well yet.
JUNE
26 Lithic Invoice (with supporting docs) for clearing work arrives by post: there are questions.
28 Jarrod calls: he will be working on design this weekend; expects to have questions early next week; need to have a sit down some time after that; Bob expresses preference for something sooner that 3rd week of July.
JULY
12 Bob meets with Alec and Jarrod; Alec explains discrepancies on bill for preliminary contract; they present new estimate; Bob provides updated "look and feel" sheets; Alec mentions that the well is in; Bob also sneaks in to scout Wainwright Tile.
AUGUST
4 Meeting at Lithic office: we discuss budget. We're getting closer.
4 We go to Better Living building supply: discuss cabinets with Mark Tate.
4 We also visit Jeff and Laura Morgan's timberframe under construction.
5 Consultation with Wainwright tile: discuss tile with Diane Murphey.
