and sometimes it doesn’t.
For me, if it’s a drywall anchor, it’s usually the latter. Definitely the latter last night as the decorative shelving unit we were attempting to put up tore itself out of the wall as soon as we let go of it. Grrrr.
Plan B, already in progress, is to set battens on the studs and secure the shelves to the battens. It won’t be as pretty but it should stay up. it may even add some shadowplay interest.
In other non-magic moments yesterday, one of two under cabinet wire racks failed to come with the right sized parts to make it work. The other is fine and already in place and in play.

but on Saturday we pulled the trigger on a major furniture order for the Hall.
The big piece we’re getting is a Stickley prairie settle with the cushions upholstered in a wild “tapestry” fabric that’s an Arts ands Crafts take on a medieval tapestry. And the colors are spot on for our palette. Despite our furniture advisor’s belief that it happened to be lying about, I spotted it edge on in the rack and pulled it out, much to Liz’s glee.
We are also slated to get two leather cushioned Morris chairs and a small matching ottoman.
The jury is still out on the other major furniture-ization, the dining room chairs. Apparently finding the right upholstered parsons chairs is much harder than one would think, especially if one doesn’t want to pay 500+ per chair.
In other furniture news, the secretary for the “office closet” is assembled and in use. The pantry cabinet remains MIA and has now been postponed to October delivery. What is going on with those people? Delays due to getting ready for the Olympics should be over by now.

Doing the trim painting in the garage is taking longer — doesn’t it always work out that way? — as the chosen color really needs a second coat to look good. However, most of it is second coated now. There will be a lot of follow-on touch-up work since the brushes have been cantankerous and there have been a lot of awkward approach angles that have lead to awkward “oopsies.”
It’s starting to look cool.
So, naturally, I am seeing some things that “ought to be done” that weren’t in the original plan. More work. Some of which ought to pay off well. With luck, all of it will pay off.

We have received our occupancy certificate for the garage. Yeah! Guess that means we can live there now.
We now have weather stripping on the bottom of the doors which will cut down the visitations from small local wildlife. We still need bolts installed on the right hand valves to snug things up tight. Said bolts are in the mail.
The main area is coming along. Everything is primed and much of it is painted. The intimidating high work around the south upper window remains to be done, but it’s looking good. We are close to completing the “salle d’armes” phase one.
The “upper lounge” needs some some more mudding work, then priming and painting. The lounge railing needs to be addressed as the “pass the inspection” kluge is really not what we had in mind.
After that, there will be some detailing work to complete phase two. That done, the salle ought to be ready to open for business. Of course the workshop will need a lot work, but that won’t get in the way of swordwork.
